Our Mission
First Haitian Baptist Church of Canarsie exists to be a Christ centered church, dedicated to the development of the church and the community around us, as we engage in our commitment to glorify God, transform lives and impact New York City and the world through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These values serve as the foundation of our ministry and all that we stand for as a church.
Our History
First Haitian Baptist Church of Canarsie is located on Ave L in the heart of Canarsie. The church was founded in March, 1999 by Rev. Joseph Victor. It started out as a church planting endeavor, in response to the growing need of the Haitians and West Indians who were moving into the Canarsie section of Brooklyn. We began meeting in a store front building, but as our worship attendance grew and more ministries were formed, we soon outgrew our building. Three years later we purchased our own building, with adequate space to meet the growing needs of our members.
Our Community
We are a Haitian American Church, seeking to minister the unchanging Gospel to both Haitians and English speaking people in our community, the Canarsie section of Brooklyn. We began as a French speaking/Haitian Creole congregation, but in response to the leading of the Holy Spirit, we are now expanding our ministries to reach the West Indian and other English speaking people in our community, whom the Lord, in His providence, has landed on our door step.
